       MFM - Fish and Chips   man1   man2   man3   man4
This restaurant claims that it serves the number one fish and chips. Oh well, i seem to have heard lots of people calling themselves the number one fish and chips maker nowadays. Nevertheless, with not too bad reviews above, i decided to give this ' fish market ' a try.

This resturant does not look bit like a 'fish market' at all. Thats because it do not have a hint of fishy smell there. Well, i guess the fish market name probably means that it has a large variety of fishes sold there.

The specialtly of this restuarant is, beside the usual sofa seats, this restuarant also have an outdoor dining area. Though its not a very big area, they managed to spread each table quite spaciously. They even lit up small candles to create a cosy atmosphere during dusk. I think that its a rather thoughful move to serve its customers.

Then come the food, my first impression of the fish and chips is that it is real big. Well, perhaps the fish and chips that i have eaten before always disappoint me with thin dry fish fillet. But this is totally different. It has two very distinct tastes. The outside of the fillet tastes real crispy. Well, this may be the effect of their special batter. The inside gives a super soft taste and it could almost melt in my mouth.

When combined the fillet with the specially made mayo, the fillet tasted even more delicious. The mayo taste rather special to me as it has a very smooth and light texture and will not make me feel tired of it after taking too much. So, basically i dipped everything with the mayo. hee.

As for the chips, it has the similar appearance as the fillet -- big and chunky. Not only that, it also achieved the outside crispy and inside soft kind of texture. Sprinkle them with some salt and the fries will taste much much better.

Now, i finally realise why they dare to say that they make the number one fish and chips. This, i totally agree with them.

do not really understand why there is a change in my appetite recently. Used to like seafood, but now i don't dare to touch them? Mysterious? hahahah... Today, i have this sudden craving for dim sum, think of siew man, char siew bao will start to make me drool. So when i chanced upon this dim sum outlet, i was pretty happy.

This pick & bite cafe is no ordinary dim sum store. Besides selling those dim sum in the straw basket, you can find congee, rice dumplings, desserts, baos and more. A rather wide range of food to be found here right?

Baos and dim sum are probably easier to pack and eat on the go as compared to noodles and mixed rice. Thus, during lunch time, you get to see many people patronizing their outlet to pack some snacks. (A rather long queue can be seen)

Fear not that you will have to stand and eat their food as they have set up few tables and chairs to cater for those customers who wants to enjoy their food in the outlet itself. There have also set up some additional chairs outside of their store. (most probably for the smokers to smoke and eat at the same time?)

Tried their lotus leaf rice, one of their most popular item in the cafe (at least 50% of its customer will be seen eating this dish). However, i was not very impressed with this dish, as the rice (japanese rice) was rather dry and hard. Perhaps, the rice was overcooked? The ingredients in the rice was rather little too. (only a few piece of char siew and small cubes of mushrooms is seen) Patheic?

Tasted their dessert -- orh nee (yam paste), but it seems too diluted too taste. (makes me think of orh nee in a drink form?) Whats more? This is my very first time to eat orh nee without ginko nuts. (the version that i ate is totally different from the picture shown) Did they forgot to put it in or picture is deceiving? I really wonder.

Tried their baskets of dim sum as well, their har gia (shrimps wrapped in wanton skin) is not that great too. Rather dry, and small size. Not really worth the amount paid too.

Well, guess my experience with them is not really that marvellous after all. I would really have to ponder hard hard if i would like to step in and try their food again. :P

      Category: Fast Food, Japanese
What would you think of when i say fast food restuarant? As for me, i would think of Macdonald! Perhaps their strong advertisement has make this impact (fast food equals to mac chicken?) on me whenever i think of fast food restuarant. hahhaahah...

However, this japanese brand fast food competitor somehow has managed to creep into my heart. (so now, i thought of mos burger too whenever i heard of fast food restuarant) :P

Whats so special about this restuarant, you may ask? Well, the most special part of this restuarant is the japanese flavour not only in their food but also in the design of the restuarant and the staff uniforms as well.

I like almost anything in the menu that they have. One of the most popular burger is definitely their teriyaki chicken burger. This is my favourtie too. I simply like the fact that they bother to toast their bun. Imagine the bun is hot and one side of the bread is slightly crispy, it makes my whole burger eating experience great.

Not forgetting, they uses teriyaki chicken breast (should be as it do not look like drumstick to me :P) which is a rather healthy alternative compared to the rest of the parts of a chicken. Whats more, they actually included fresh vegetables (not few slices but one big piece) into the burger, definitely makes me feel less guilty when i induge in the fast food.

Another must try is definitely their corn soup. They have about 3 different types of soup available but corn soup is still the best. I like the thickness of the coup (not too thick where it will stick together and not too thin that you feel you are drinking plain water). The strong corn taste of the corn soup (sometimes you can see few pieces of corn bits in it) is something which makes me crave more for their soup.

Milk tea as a fast food drink item? You can find it here! You get the choice of making how milky you want the drink to be. This is because their milk tea is not pre mixed before hand, instead you have to add in the milk yourself from individual packings. I loved this personalised milk tea as i can add in the amount of milk accordingly to my mood on that day :P.

A rather interesting concept from the normal american chain of fast food restuarant that you see. Although their prices may be slightly higher, its definitely worth to try them out.

Tends to get a headache whenever i see too much people queuing for food. But guess only good food will attract lots of customer. dilemma right? hahahahaha... initially, just wanted to have a simple dinner at the food court, but out of a sudden it seems overwhem with people. (people going for weekend cruise)

In the end, i decided not to squeese with the crowd and went upstairs searching for a place to have quiet meal. Then did i saw this Orient Cruise cafe located at the third level of the harbourfront centre.

Well, though the signboard has written it as a cafe, you basically will not find any servers greeting you as you enter their store. Why is it so, you may ask? This is because they are on a self service practice. Even, the food that you would like to eat, you will have to queue it up yourself and buy them.

Their varieties of food is not really that much, basically it includes mixed rice (you get to choose you own side dish like vegetables, meat, etc), mee siam, mee rubus and laksa. Not really much to choose right?

Was not very impressed with their mee siam thou. Firstly, its definitely their lack of ingredients. Basically, you can only find one egg, 3 small cubes of tau pok and whole chunk of bee hoon. I though perhaps their mee siam may taste great despite their lack of ingredients. But im very disappointed when their bee hoon taste like rubber bands. :(

Next important stuff for a good mee siam, its their mee siam sauce. For me, i think that good mee siam sauce should have a not too sweet and not too salty kind of taste. (just right is the key word). However, i feel this mee siam sauce is too salty and it lacks the peanut taste that most of the mee siam have. Makes me drink quite abit of water after that.

Tasted their laksa too. The first thing that i wan to comment is the pool of red chilli oil floating on the top of the laksa. Makes me feel like i am drinking oil instead? However, it has definitely much more ingredients than the mee siam, with all its fish cake and beansprouts. hahaha... Taste wise, nothing fanastic i guess.

This shop can gets rather crowd during peak hours. Mixed rice is definitely the most popular item for its customers, judging from the people over there. However, it may not be a good choice to bring my mee siam fanatics to try it here.

          Category: Hawker Centres
To see a hawker centre right in the middle of the holland village may seems abit out of the place. Well, perhaps only to me, i always feel that holland village is the place where all the pubs and bars are located and not a hawker centre?

This hawker centre seems rather small to me. Small in the sense as there are approximately less than 20 food stalls available there. (did not go and count the number of food stores one by one thou, just did a rough estimation on this) Thou small, you can find most of the singaporean style of food there.

Orignal hakka is one of the singaporean style of food. Can you guess what is the orginal hakka selling? Yes, they are selling non other than the yong tau fu. The word 'hakka' is probably used as yong tau fu is invented by the hakka people.

Managed by a team consisting of a man and a woman (probably husband and wife). They have delegate their jobs rather efficiently, i can say, with one handling the cooking and the other collecting the money. Thats probably why its pretty rare to see a long queue at their store thou they never lack of patronizing customer. I pretty like the fast queue as it means i can get to eat my food fast. hahahahah.

The varieties of the ingredients is not alot, however you will be able to find those normal stuff there like the nor hiang (meat stuffed in beancurb skin, beancurb, 4 different types of vegetables, won ton, tau pok (minced fish stuff in beancurb), etc...

Tried their soup based yong tau fu. The most determinant factor of yong tau fu is definitely their soup. I can say orignal hakka soup never fail me. Their soup has probably been brewed with lots of ingredients (definitely have put in yellow beans) for a very long time in order to achieve the very sweet taste. I love it.

The bee hoon, usually the most forgetten piece of ingredients tastes good. No soggy soggy kind of bee hoon, instead you can taste a extremely light and slight crispness in their bee hoon.

Last but not least, i loved their nor hiang. These nor hiang are stuffed and filling up fully with chicken meat. Yes, its chicken meat, often you will see those stuff with pork instead. Special right?
