Went on a saturday. Firstly, the queue is not very long. Reached around 10am. This is a welcome, especially on a weekend. However, I don't really remember the queue later in the day.
Threatre wise, it is quite similar to all the other cathay branches. Normal seats in front, couple seats for last few rows, nice distance away from the screen
Sound reproduction was alright too. This place is quite new, housed in the new entertainment complex as part of the chalet compound. There are things to do after watching the show in the complex.
There are also promotion for some credit card holders. UOB at $8 per ticket on weekends if im not wrong.
Overall, I would recommend this place for watching movie if it is not too far off for you.
Whenever I booked a chalet at Pasir Ris, I never failed to visit the cinema with my kids. They just love watching those late night movies. However, I rated this cinema with only 3 stars because there's a few things that isn't up to my expectation.
What I hate about this place is the ticketing and popcorn counter which merged into one. I wish they would've separated those two counters which would have made things alot easier.
Another thing which was inconvenient was the toilet which was situated outside the cinema. It was a hassle having to go in and out of the cinema with my kids just to get to the toilet and missing quite a portion of the movie.
Although there's a couple of flaws, I'd certainly go there again.
Finally, after living in Pasir Ris for eighteen years, there's finally a cinema in town without having to go all the way to Tampines... But I still prefer Shaw at Century Square.
However, this cinema is probably one of the smaller ones among cathay. Seats are slightly uncomfortable. But the biggest sticking point is that the snacks counter is together with the ticketing counter, so if you had booked your tickets in advance to beat the queue, you still have to queue with everyone else to get your drinks.
My favourite hangout, just minutes away from my home. A place that i love to watch my midnight show and follow by a "budget" cab home!
"SLACK" and "CASUAL"!
Usually can get tickets if you arrive at least 1 and half hour before the show.
In terms of customer service, they are much better than the other Cathay Cineplex. They explain clearly regarding all the credit card priviledges to you.
This is a good place for those ppl who have nothing to do during the late night (i mean real late night as in 3am!). They have movies showing 24 hours.
If you hold a UOB Credit card, you just need to pay $8 per tic for weekend movie. Agree with what $money$ mentioned that the ticket & popcorn counter are quite crowded.
The seat in the cinema are quite comfy and spacious. Maybe all the new cinemas had improve this. But if you want couple seats, where those arm rest allowed to be raise up, they are only available on the last few rows.
Overall is suitable for those staying in extreme east side of SG.
Having been there twice for late night movies, I found the place average. The queues for the tickets and popcorn counters often cut into the entrance to the cinemas.
The cafes in front of the counters take up space in an awkward manner and I find it difficult to navigate from the escalators to the counters when the crowd gets huge.
What I do like is that the person sitting in front won't be blocking my view unless he/she is really very tall. The seats are comfortable.
However, the exits to the multistorey carpark were locked after midnight so we had to go to 2nd level and take the carpark lift to the 6th level after the movie.
The lesson learnt was that the car should be parked at level 1 or 2 or in the open space carpark just opposite the building when watching late night shows.
The ticketing counter is abit blended into the background at level 4. Meanwhile the entrance is abit far from the main passage way in the whole level. It is situated next to the restrooms, makes it stink in a way.
The ticketing counter could have been better, perhaps with a separate counter for patrons who just wish to purchase pop corn or drinks only. I would recommend some counters at the ground level of Downtown East E!Hub for selling of tickets only, just like those in The Cathay and Cathay Cineleisure.
One thing to note, the staff was abit slow in serving the queue too, causing long queues in front of the counters half an hour before all the movies start. They do provide those special service whereby patrons place order for food or drinks first at the counter and receive them later in the cinema. However, with such long queues around, how to even place an order at the counter?
I had my show at Hall 4. Very comfortable seats. I always find seats at Cathay Cineplexes more spacious and comfortable at those at Golden Village. I had neckaches when I watched movies at GV Vivocity, but never encounter such thing at Cathay, including Cathay Downtown East.
