I have tried this fried kuay Tiao before. I had it during my lunch time and the queue is super duper long. Lunchtime is the only chance I can have it because I don't think they are open at night or sundays. Its super cheap $2. Not sure the price got increase anot. But definitely not filling. The portion is quite small. Of course you can order a bigger portion. But in the Char Kuay Tiao, they added lots of "zhu you zhai". For those who love Char Kuay Tiao with lots of the "zhu you Zhai" can give it a try. As the waiting time, is super duper long so if you are super determine to try it you must be willing to wait. The stall is located right at the end of a stretch of stalls. So it will not be difficult to search.
Seem like most yebber give good comment, but not me.
You can said i a picky guy, even though the queue is fast, the price is reasonable but taste wise is average only, if not why they sell it soo low at $2.50. And farther more, they put too much garlic in it, it felt like i eating a plate of garlic... There are better Fried Kway Teow Mee found around Chinatown area, for example Smith Street Food complex or Blk 34 Upper Cross Street, S11.
My Favourite Place: 1st will be Hill Street Fried Kway Teow
Blk 16, Bedok South Road, #01-187, 2nd is Ghim Moh Hawker Centre, 3rd will be Hai Kee Teochew Char Kway Teow, Blk 40A Commonwealth Ave.
Normally i go down to hong lim market & food centre, i go eat curry chicken mee, curry puff, chicken cutlet mee (my favourite)
I waited for a plate of Kuay Teow Mee for about 20 minutes and $2 got me a reasonably sized plate with about 5-6 pieces of cockles. I found this version a refreshing change from the usual heavy ones you get outside. The taste was more subtle and I didn't get nauseous from eating too much of it.
Can give it a try but be prepared for a long wait.
Its been a long time since I tried this. My past experience with this stall has been great. Char Kway Teow with a lot of cockles. However, I do remember one occasion whereby the noodle was not well fried. The standard was really off. Haven't gone back since then.
This stall lies on the second floor of Hong Lim Complex, a place filled with great gastronomic delights at low rates.
This stall in particular, has been around for more than 15-20 years and has been a popular choice since its time at Outram Park.
I always have this perception that a stall that concentrates on selling a single item will be more successful as compared to others who sells hokkien mee and char kway teow at the same time. This is one example to justify my judgment.
The cost of a plate starts from $2. The cockles used are freshly obtained daily and is one of the highlights of the dish. The kway teow is not too dry or too wet, the ideal kind of thickness and wetness.
The place is packed with customers from the nearby commercial buildings during lunch time so be prepared to come with your packet of tissue to reserve your seats! Average waiting time during peak period is around 20-30 minutes, although I have worst experience of waiting for 45 minutes. But the wait is all worthwhile.
Requesting for special order should not be a problem as they actually remembers the request even during peak period. Some other stalls just doesn't really bother when they are busy (or even free).
Overall, I feel that the price is very affordable and is value for money. This rank 2nd in my ranking for Char Kway Teow. The best time to visit if you want to avoid the queues are before 12pm and after 2.30pm. Do pop by if you're around Chinatown, worth trying!! :)
