bangkok rocks! superb shopping and incredibly cheap food (:
1. suan lum night market
loads of quirky local designer goods, shouldnt cost more than 300B (S$12). grab a few vintage tees at 100B (S$4)!
2. platinum centre
THE place for shopping. food court sells amazing food (sharksfin soup in a claypot for S$6, beef kway teow soup for S$2.20) lovely dresses for average 200B (S$8), tees for average (S$4). good if you're lazy to bargain cos you can't and wont need to here, already so cheap!
3. pratunam centre
relatively interesting night market (6-10pm). didnt manage to visit it during the day. sells everything from second-hand shoes (good for those who hate wearing in their shoes..and dont mind other people's feet smell..), wallets, fried locusts/scorptions, little clothed rabbits, mini youtiao/butterfly bun..
in pattaya
1. the avenue
very ex. higher end stuff like roxy, nike here. but the supermarket rocks!! loads of japanese goods at cheap prices (i dont understand why) and exotic stuff like reese's peanut butter cup BROWNIE. exotic for suaku me anyways (:
on a random note, there's this cup noodle that i quite like. its called light meal. claims to have 0.5g of fat! anw the flavor that i got was spicy tung hoon seafood salad. basically u pour in hot water, then drain after the tung hoon is cooked, and finally add in the tom yum seasoning. YUMMY and..light haha.
oh and swensen's in bangkok/pattaya is VERY CHEAP. like one scoop of ice cream costs only..S$1.60! the sticky chewy chocolate sundae (with malteasers, choc dipped wafer and hot fudge) cost S$2.20. i love ice cream (:
to me, most thai express outlets i visit have generally serviceable food. nothing to rave about, but no complaints. vivocity branch is no different.
green curry with seafood: i love all curries so this was good.
soft shell crab with secret batter: we asked the waiter what the secret was. no luck there haha! rather disappointingly small piece of crab, turned soft quickly.
olive rice with chicken: i love the accompanying sauce! the olive rice is strangely..crunchy. but not unpleasant.
kangkong with prawn paste: a bit too oily. but the prawn paste and chilli was good (:
spindoctorsaid: lol..interesting phrase...."servicable food"...infact anything sprinkled with grinded peanuts is "thai" food. haha... 18 Dec 2008 at 11:20 am
whiteblankosaid: haha true! oh i learn that word from 8days one. I LOVE 8days. 18 Dec 2008 at 4:14 pm

their mini bun collection is quite nice. i'll try their bigger buns next time!
cinnamon donut my friend raves over this, but i find this actually below average. anw my fave donut will alw be from jco. might change cos i havent tried krispy kreme yet :p
mini floss bun puts the breadtalk one to shame, honestly! the sun moulin bun is softer and has more bite. somehow i find breadtalk's one very..airy. this is much more satisfying (:
plain croissant [second pic] my sis and other yebbers say its very good. so i guess it is..
cream cheese donut with choc drizzled on top [first pic] even after i dropped it on the floor (by accident, of course!) it still tasted super nice. haha which is really saying sth..abt how much i wanted to eat it and how good it was. soft donut with milky (but not overwhelmingly so) cheese inside..oishii!
the FIRST affordable japanese foodcourt in singapore! i think.
ishi mura has a very similar setting as nihon mura. entering the foodcourt, the first thing that caught my eye was the row of sushi (supermarket style) and boxes and boxes of japanese snacks.
there are many foodstalls serving bento (essentially cai fan with jap sounding names), jap curry rice, don (rice bowl), jap style pasta & pizza, omu rice (rice wrapped in egg omelette), ramen, rice burger and bbq skewers (tori-q style).
i went there on twice (family friend) in a week, thats how good it was (:
the ramen is a must-try. even the original ($3.90) which comes with the basic egg (half), beansprouts and seaweed..thing is delicious. the milky broth is utterly addictive, and the noodle is springy without being tough. they'll ask if you want their home-made chilli (on a separate spoon) and please DO TAKE IT! there are different versions such as the seafood and some meat ones which begin from $5.90.
on my second visit, i ordered curry rice (just curry and rice is $2.90) with vegetable tempura ($1.50 for 3 pcs. choice of red/green pepper, brinjal, yam, lotus root). they also had other stuff like fried prawn, chicken cutlet..anw i found the curry quite weak and bland. the brinjal, yam and lotus root tempura i chose were only passable because of this red pickle they served with it.
sister ordered teriyaki chicken cream pasta (either $6.90 or $7.90) and it was also really good! beat pastamania's flat. creamy without being jelat with generous servings of chicken, mushroom and onions.
friend ordered fried seafood patty rice burger ($4.50 with fries and drink - cheap!) but i think..mos burger's is still much better. the rice patty was bland which made eating it quite a chore. avoid the stall if possible.
lots of hits and misses in ishi mura, but overall a nice place to visit (:
Cappuccino I think. Rich chocolate glaze with coffee cream in the middle.
Oreo crown. I love the crown donuts!! Supposed to be made with healthier floor. The crown is not as soft, more firm. But that with the powdery burst of oreo crumbs..super nice!!
only grouse is that sometimes when you eat in, they give it to you in a takeaway box :(

Mango donuts – genuine tasting mango glaze with silky mango cream.
